Dalarna University is partnering with Somaliland Universities to reduce maternal and child mortality by strengthening midwifery
Somaliland cater for one of the highest maternal and child mortality rates worldwide and one key issue is shortages of qualified midwives. There is an urgent need to train qualified competent midwifery educators who can teach evidence based midwifery care considering the contextual situation of Somaliland, health care needs and addresses the new trends in teaching, using modern pedagogic methods and IT technology. The main objective with this project is to develop a context sensitive model for distance learning using information and communications technology (ICT) in order to rebuild capacity within midwifery training institutions in Somaliland. The long-term goal of this project is to provide with appropriately trained qualified midwives that will contribute to the reduction of maternal and child mortality in Somaliland.
